The Role
To oversee the entire warehouse and transport operations of the Western Vic Distribution Centre, with a focus on developing continuous improvement initiatives and implementing best practice processes and methodologies to deliver efficiency gains and drive profitability.
There is a requirement also to implement and maintain a strong safety focus with a view to proactively identify and control hazards. In addition, there is a short-term focus to assist in the implementation of a new WMS.
Key Responsibilities
- Full accountability of ensuring Occupational Health & Safety requirements are met;
- Full accountability of operational and labour expenditure across the warehouse;
- Including assisting the Branch Manager in the development of site operational and labour budgets, with continuous monitoring and controlling of expenditure to ensure budget objectives are met.
- Full accountability of ensuring HACCP accreditation, quality and food safety standards are maintained;
- Provide leadership and direction to warehouse managers, supervisors and site personnel;
- Including development of warehouse leaders, succession planning, employee relations, performance appraisals and recruitment with guidance from the Branch Manager.
- Full accountability of warehouse operational performance, stock levels/integrity and audit outcomes in line with service level agreements;
- Establish best practice and oversee the development of Standard Operating Procedures to ensure staff operate at the required standard;
- Oversee WMS system successful implementation - following implementation, ensure continual enhancement to gain efficiency across the WMS;
- Contribute to the development of continuous improvement initiatives to maximise operational efficiencies and site profitability;
- Lead projects (with cross functional participants) to deliver and implement improvement opportunities, with general direction from the Branch Manager.
Key Competencies, Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of end to end operational, warehouse, distribution and inventory functions;
- Strong ability to lead and direct large teams (50+) and collaborate cross functionally;
- Proven ability to develop and mentor leaders to foster a high performing culture;
- Excellent knowledge and experience of managing employee relations in a unionised environment;
- Proven experience in managing a complex, multi-channel, multi-service level environment, which is highly customer focused;
- Strong ability to analyse internal practices and establish best practice and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP);
- Strong ability to achieve efficiencies through process mapping and delivery of continuous improvement initiatives;
- Strong ability to manage projects and deliver on time and on budget;
- Strong knowledge of HACCP, OH&S regulations and cold storage processes;
- Strong commercial acumen with proven experience in managing large operational and labour expenditure;
- Strong attention to detail;
- A structured, planned approach to work with high levels of verbal and written communication;
- Proven ability to work under pressure while maintaining a professional disposition;
- Strong computer literacy and experience in using warehouse management systems.
